Spreading Compassion
By Erica Rascón on Dec 21, 2018 in Giving
Yardi Scottsdale Charity Committee recently hosted a ceremony honoring the recipients of its 2018 charitable grants. The contributions demonstrate Yardi’s mission to “take care of our communities” in action.
Each recipient is a nonprofit nominated and approved by Yardi Scottsdale employees.
Arizona Burn Foundation
The Arizona Burn Foundation mission is to “improve the quality of life of burn survivors and their families while promoting burn prevention education in Arizona.” The organization provides child burn survivors with physical, psychological, emotional and social support.
Services include reconstructive treatment, family assistance, survivor and family camps, counseling, and prevention and education programs in the community.
Upon nominating the Arizona Burn Foundation, a Scottsdale employee wrote, “My step son is a burn victim. He suffered third degree burns over his entire body when he was just 1 year old. The Arizona Burn Foundation has been a part of our lives for many years. My family volunteers and provides support for other families that are just starting the recovery process.”
Eve’s Place
Eve’s Place specializes in “supporting any victim of domestic, sexual and teen dating abuse by increasing access to services through mobile advocacy.”
The organization has helped victims to restart their lives outside of the circle of abuse. Participants receive assistance with safety planning, goal setting, and obtaining shelter. Personal advocates and support groups help victims of abuse to rebuild their esteem and sense of purpose.
To help victims attain justice, Eve’s Place also offers support and information on various legal topics within the civil and criminal justice systems.
Heart Encouragement
Heart Encouragement assists individuals suffering from cancer and provides support and encouragement for them and their loved ones during their cancer journey.
The broad spectrum of care services empowers cancer patients and their families in a variety of ways. Care services include nutritious meal planning and prep, visitations, running errands, handyman services, childcare, support groups, and financial assistance.
The organization also provides patients going through treatment with facials, personal gift baskets, delivery of handmade blankets, healthy snacks and flowers, and company. These acts of pampering and kindness have been known to raise spirits and encourage perseverance.
A Scottsdale employee shares the personal story behind the nomination, “My girlfriend has stage four cancer and she met Leah (the founder) at chemotherapy. They’ve provided an array of support and services. Heart Encouragement provided direct support to 316 patients and indirect support to 320 individuals.”
Homeward Bound
Homeward Bound creates pathways out of poverty for homeless families ready to make a change. The organization serves more than 130 families facing homelessness every year. Customized programming encourage participants towards self-sufficiency. In the interim, participants receive furnished, safe housing until they get back on their feet.
Hospice of the Valley
Hospice of the Valley (HOV) provides end-of-life care for patients and their families. Some families opt for inpatient care at the local HOV facilities. For families that are eligible for home care, HOV hospital beds, supplies, and delivery services. HOV also offers specialized pediatric hospice care and dementia programs.
Most patients and their families pay nothing out of pocket. No client is turned away for an inability to pay for services.
A Yardi Scottsdale employee recalls the first encounter with HOV, “My first experience with hospice was more than 20 years ago when my grandmother passed away from pancreatic cancer. HOV was amazing, and their care and support provided an opportunity for my family to spend her final days together, at home. More recently, I lost a friend to ALS. He raved about the care and support he received from HOV and the kindness of the volunteers and staff – both for him and his wife.”
Susan G. Komen 3-Day The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the world’s largest fundraising event of its kind. The runs and walks raise funds and awareness for breast cancer while celebrating survivors and those survived by their loved ones.
The organization supports research and clinical trails for breast cancer prevention and treatment.
