Fun in Anaheim
By Leah Etling on Oct 2, 2013 in News
For the first time, the Fall Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference will be held outside of Santa Barbara, Calif. this fall.
The host hotel for Fall YASC 2013 will be the Hilton Anaheim, located in central Orange County near the Anaheim Convention Center and the Disneyland Resort. YASC dates are Wednesday to Friday, October 9-11.
Yardi clients come to YASC to focus on advanced software training, helpful product knowledge, and to benefit from industry peer collaboration opportunities. They also deliver invaluable input to the Yardi development team on needed improvements and enhancements across Yardi’s diverse product line.
Courses held during the two and a half day event focus on a variety of specialties. YASC attendees include executives, IT professionals, marketers, property managers and trainers. Your company must hold a current Yardi contract in order to attend YASC.
In addition to the solid work and training that takes place at the conference, we wanted to share a few nearby Anaheim opportunities for our clients and guests to enjoy themselves while visiting Orange County. There are myriad attractions that bring millions of visitors to the area each year, including one known all over the world – Disneyland.
Here are a few of the recommendations made by Anaheim locals and visitors:
Entertainment
Disneyland, Downtown Disney, and other Disney-related attractions: Anaheim is ubiquitously associated with the Disney experience, and it is possible to get a feel for the California iteration of the “Happiest Place on Earth” without spending a full day at the park. There is plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment associated with Downtown Disney District, which is free to browse and enjoy, and within walking distance of the Hilton. We know that a few attendees are bringing along their families so they can enjoy Disneyland or California Adventure while Mom or Dad attends their YASC sessions. If you’ve had to leave the kids at home, perhaps a Disney-themed souvenir would be a big hit.
Flightdeck Flight Simulation Center: Ever wanted to pilot a Boeing 737 or a fighter jet, but your busy schedule as a real estate professional keeps you grounded at your desk? Give the Flightdeck Simulation Center a try and experience simulated landings, takeoffs, in-flight maneuvers and more.
Nearby golf courses: A longtime Orange County resident and Yardi employee recommended the following courses for clients who may want to hit the links during their time in Southern California. Strawberry Farms (Irvine), Tustin Ranch (Tustin), and Black Gold Golf Club (Yorba Linda) are not in the immediate Anaheim area and would all require a short drive. The YASC Fall Golf Tournament will be held at Tustin Ranch.
Shopping: Also within walking distance of the Hilton is the Anaheim GardenWalk, featuring shopping, dining, bowling, movies and nightlife. If you’ve forgotten to pack something in your suitcase or just want to walk and window shop, this might be a good place to head.
Restaurants
There will be plenty of good eats available for YASC attendees, but sometimes it is fun to step out on the town and see what the local cuisine scene has to offer. Here are a few recommendations from around Anaheim.
Breakfast restaurant: Original Pancake House The pancake house was founded in Portland, Oregon, and features all varieties of pancakes from around the world. It doesn’t have to be breakfast time for you to eat there, either, they’re open for lunch, too. (Closing at 2 p.m.) Apparently this location also has great corned beef hash.
Unique Ethnic Restaurants: Anaheim is a diverse melting pot when it comes to cultural representation, and for us visitors, that means the chance to try some great and inexpensive ethnic food. A few recommended spots include: Zankou Chicken (Lebanese/Armenian cuisine), Punjabi Tandoor (Indian cuisine), and Rosine’s Mediterranean Café (Mediterranean).
For that team steak dinner: If you are wanting to enjoy a relaxing evening with your colleagues and a great piece of meat, you might head to the highly reviewed The Ranch, which makes Zagat and is compared by some customers to a high-end Vegas steakhouse. They also have live music and line dancing some nights! There’s also an excellent Ruth’s Chris in Anaheim that is well-reviewed.
Fun Theme Bar: Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar: If you visited Disneyland as a kid, maybe you’ll remember the Tiki Room, a long gone attraction at the theme park that was filled with chattering parrots. Well, some of the spirit is revisited in Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, located at the Disneyland Hotel and featured fun cocktails and décor.
