Yardi’s global offices make essential contributions to property management and investors worldwide. Today, meet Graham Pierce, from the European PSG team.

Graham Pierce

Pierce is a leading investment management services team member and a UK commercial consultant. Pierce has been working at Yardi for 13 years. He spends his time in the office checking whether people have the information and decisions they need to progress on their tasks and whether anyone is looking for help, mainly if they are in different time zones. His workload includes a mix of consulting, working with sales and solutions consulting teams and longer-term and ad hoc questions and requests for support and escalation.

“I get to work with many very intelligent, capable and motivated people from whom I learn from all the time. I feel supported and valued by my boss and superiors, and I can give my team stimulating work, help them where needed, and look after them,” said Pierce.

Pierce feels that the work culture at Yardi is meritocratic. People in senior positions have an incredible grasp of detail, and good ideas are adopted. In contrast, the occasional bad ones are challenged logically and respectfully, irrespective of who came up with them.

“In the consulting team, we are not focusing on selling time but on getting clients live, which is a much more rewarding way to work. We have a lot of tremendously smart, experienced, and capable people who are friendly and helpful and invested in one another’s success,” Pierce explained.

Pierce describes Yardi as a stable company with a strong growth track record and a long-term outlook. It’s a nice place to work with high employee retention, which excites new hires to start work here.

“It’s easy to take all of this for granted after 13 years, but when I think back to the other places I’ve worked, I don’t think any of them had all of these features,” said Pierce.

Problem-solving skills

Pierce has learned not to take anything personally from upset clients or when things do not go according to plan. Clients look to him for guidance and help if they are worried or upset, “I still remind myself about this from time to time.”

His last full-time consultant job for BNY was a few years ago, his most significant accomplishment yet. “We had some tough times in that project and a few moments when at least I thought, ‘I don’t know how we’re going to solve this,’ but we got there and learned an awful lot in the process.  Nowadays, I do a bit less hands-on work, so it’s more about seeing people in my team build confidence and skill in new areas and get great feedback from their clients.”

From time to time, Pierce still gets to work on something that he and a client or a prospect think is a showstopper, and together, they figure out a way to do it, “like we’ve done with pooled funds and some consolidation and IM structure requirements that are really rewarding.”

Pierce is fascinated by programming most of the time, but right now, the AI functionality that Doug Dion and his team are working on is breathtaking, so he says he’d like to join in with them.

Cricket enthusiast

Graham Pierce

Pierce likes cycling, indoor climbing, and bouldering outside the office with his daughter. He also started baking a few years ago and has a few go-to recipes he likes to share, mainly bread—he has a tremendous sourdough recipe he would be happy to share! He watches lots of cricket, mainly Surrey CCC at Kennington Oval, and organizes occasional work outings to watch a game there. Pierce hopes to watch England play test cricket in Barbados, Melbourne, Kolkata and Cape Town.

“I’ve raced against at least three riders who’ve competed in the Tour de France, including one former winner and beaten at least two of them. There is some fairly important small print that accompanies this (factually correct) statement,” expressed Pierce.

Pierce is gradually working his way through riding the routes and watching live the biggest one-day bike races in Europe. He has Milan-San Remo on the list for next year!
