Morrell Honored
Business & Tech Awards
A longtime Yardi executive was honored Thursday night as part of the 22nd annual South Coast Business & Technology Awards. Started in 1995 by local business and industry leaders, the awards honor individuals and companies who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to ensuring the economic vitality of the South Coast of Santa Barbara County. Gordon Morrell, Yardi’s Executive Vice President and a Yardi employee since 1990, was named Executive of the Year by the selection committee. “I’m honored to receive this award, but it really is not for me,” Morrell said. “It is for the entire global team at Yardi. The reason for our success is the exceptional collaboration of everyone at the company, rather than the efforts of one individual.” Morrell oversees Yardi’s corporate and fiscal interests, including corporate acquisitions and day-to-day operations. He joined the company when it had just one Santa Barbara office and 25 employees. Today, there are 4,800 Yardi employees at 35 offices around the world. The South Coast Business & Technology Awards are sponsored by more than 80 local companies. The proceeds raised benefit the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, and are awarded to business and technology students at Santa Barbara City College, UC Santa Barbara, and Westmont College. Other 2016 SCB&T honorees include: Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara, Excellence in Service; Sandra Hirsh, Isolite Systems, Entrepreneur of the Year; Lynda.com a LinkedIn Company, Company of the Year; and George Powell, Pioneer Award. Village Green
Versatility Reigns
2015 has already been a terrific year for Village Green. First, the company received the CEL Award for first place in Resident Satisfaction for the fifth consecutive year. Then the recent announcement of National Apartment Association Units Magazine Curb Appeal Awards brought additional good tidings. The Yardi client walked away with three awards for its unique properties. Village Green was the only company in the competition to earn that many honors. The group of awards demonstrates Village Green’s versatility, creativity, and expertise. Best Historic Restoration Central West End City Apartments, St. Louis Central West End City apartments (CWE City) is so popular that it is currently on a waitlist. St. Louis Today and Fox News ranked Central West End as one of the top ten best neighborhoods in the nation. Add CWE City apartment’s blend of historic charm and modern conveniences, and renters can’t wait to sign a lease. CWE City is composed of four buildings. It received the Best Historic Restoration Award for its stunning Preston Bradshaw design constructed in 1926. It was been renovated while maintaining much of the building’s original charm: wrought-iron awnings, cathedral ceilings, rich hardwoods, and Frank Lloyd Wright accents adorn the premises. Even the landscaping is a nod to a bygone era. Best Zen Escape Ann Arbor City Apartments, Ann Arbor Amidst the bustle of the city center, the residents at Ann Arbor City Apartments have a bit of peace and quiet. On the lobby level of the seven-story building, residents can escape to The Zen Garden. It is a tiny yet complete retreat from the busy streets just outside of Ann Arbor City’s walls. Residents enjoy the garden for meditation and reflection or take advantage of the adjacent yoga space. To promote balance, the garden is full of dichotomous yet harmonious concepts such as natural and manmade materials, fluid and static décor, and smooth and textured finishes. Best Adaptive Re-Use Soo Line, Minneapolis Village Green has battled urban sprawl by making the most of existing properties. The company wins the Best Adaptive Re-Use award for Soo Line, a former commercial building. The building once fit beautifully among other commercial structures on the block. After receiving an exterior makeover—lighting, landscaping, and intentionally quaint restaurant and retail storefronts—designers re-imagined the interiors. Plush seating, vibrant textiles, and ample social spaces make this former commercial property feel like home. Congratulations to Village Green for such outstanding accomplishments. PACE Awards
Yardi Clients Honored
Several Yardi clients were recognized this week by the Property Management Association’s (PMA) Apartment Community Excellence Awards (PACE). Categories included market rate and government-assisted housing, along with green initiative communities, resident retention programs, and communities that make a difference in their hometowns. Habitat America was recognized for several properties, including Clare Court, which was honored in the Affordable Maryland category. The Clare Court complex offers a mix of apartments and townhomes within an intergenerational collection of residents. In addition to living in a supportive community, residents give back, enhancing the greater community through mandatory volunteer activities and training. Vantage was awarded in the lease-up category for its management of the luxury high-rise Gallery Bethesda (pictured at right), a recently completed community owned by the Donohoe Group. Ever- innovating, yet never losing focus on their client’s goals, Vantage has managed family-owned portfolios in the multifamily industry for 40 years. Properties were recognized in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region including communities in Maryland and Virginia. According to PMA Executive Vice President Thomas B. Cohn, “PACE recognizes exceptional apartments and identifies communities that are passionate about providing exceptional resident services and delivering unparalleled living experiences. PACE not only celebrates excellence in the management of apartment communities, it also fills a void. PACE is the only awards program in the national capital region that evaluates apartment communities on their operating efficiencies and ability to deliver world-class customer service. Unlike many apartment award programs in other parts of the nation, PACE is not a beauty contest or a program to honor as many communities as possible. Instead, PACE looks to recognize truly extraordinary properties that are the best of the best.” Yardi clients were also recognized in the following categories: Habitat America : http://www.habitatamerica.com/ Category: Affordable Maryland Property...
