The event’s general session highlighted Yardi’s ongoing commitment to the Canadian real estate market, covering Yardi’s journey in the industry, the latest AI-powered solutions and the upcoming Voyager 8. A strong foundation for growth Yardi Canada’s vice president and general manager, Peter Altobelli (pictured, right), opened the general session by acknowledging the year-long planning and immense efforts involved in making YASC Canada a success. “We are focused on education, networking and partnering with you today and for the long term,” Peter remarked, emphasizing Yardi’s commitment to its clients’ growth and success. Reflecting on Yardi’s journey in Canada, Peter highlights the company’s gradual expansion, which began with just five staff and grew to over 500 employees across three Canadian offices. “As our clients grow, we grow and our relationship remains strong,” he shared, illustrating the mutual commitment between Yardi and its Canadian clients. He also highlighted the impact of Yardi’s Saskatoon office, home to a team of 75 who develop products for global clients, reinforcing Yardi’s dedication to innovation and service. Embracing the future with a focus on service Kevin Yardi, vice president of Yardi, provided insights into Yardi’s product roadmap, reflecting on the company’s readiness to embrace the next technology transition with AI. “We’re aligning our products to meet your end-to-end business goals,” Kevin shared, noting that while the business logic remains consistent, Yardi’s enhanced functionality and user experience continue to evolve with client needs. This enables organizations to operate with precision and efficiency, empowering teams to make impactful decisions. The next chapter with Voyager 8 In line with Yardi’s focus on innovation, the session introduced Voyager 8, a reimagined platform focused on enhancing user experience for all roles, from executives to team members. Spotlight on Affordable Housing Sep17

Spotlight on Affordable Housing

If you’ve attended a Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC), you know that Yardi addresses professionals from every property management industry segment, including affordable housing. The Affordable Housing Spotlight Session during YASC drew approximately 400 people representing providers from across the country. During the session, Yardi Director of Client Services Jackie Mills-Delling gave attendees a glimpse into Yardi’s vision for the future of affordable housing property management. Agenda items included a schedule of Yardi software releases, guidance on HOTMA implementation and solution overviews for different types of affordable housing organizations. What’s Happening with HOTMA? HOTMA stands for the Housing Opportunities Through Modernization Act of 2016. Through HOTMA, the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development is updating guidelines for several affordable housing programs that will streamline core administrative processes. Jackie provided HOTMA updates for HUD 50059, Rural Development, HOME and Low Income Tax Credit properties. The updates covered the changes that HOTMA will bring, including new forms, reports, financial calculations and more. “HOTMA has been an ongoing priority for Yardi as we work with affordable housing providers to get prepared for everything coming their way. YASC is a great opportunity to get a lot of people in the room to have a discussion of the current status of these important changes to the industry,” said Jackie. Voyager 8 Perhaps the most anticipated portion of the spotlight session was a look at Yardi’s newest version of its flagship affordable housing solution, Voyager 8. Voyager 8 includes a reimagined user interface for affordable housing professionals called Compliance Manager. YASC attendees saw a demo of Compliance Manager, many for the first time. Yardi expects to release Compliance Manager, powered by Voyager 8, in the coming months. Compliance Manager centralizes access to affordable housing data, compliance reviews, metrics, communication tools and automated income and asset verifications. With Compliance Manger, users can access each of these tools from a dashboard that does not require switching screens or logging into separate modules. “The new Compliance Manager interface will enable users to quickly see and access what they use as their daily routine. It truly is a reimagined user experience, and it’s coming soon for Yardi clients,” said Jackie. Current Yardi Voyager users will be able to access Compliance Manager at no cost and without extensive implementation efforts once they’ve migrated to Voyager 8. Solution Recommendations Another exciting portion of the spotlight session provided attendees with a look at Yardi affordable housing solutions that may be a great fit for their current and future needs. For example, the overview of Maintenance IQ showed how affordable housing providers can enhance their ability to comply with federal inspection standards “This tool has the potential to significantly enhance maintenance efficiency, reducing unit turnaround times and seamlessly integrating with procurement processes. It streamlines the integration of materials needed for tasks like changing a lock or faucet directly into the workflow,” said Jackie. Other products covered during the session included Yardi Aspire, which is a complete learning management solution, Yardi Verification Services which delivers income and asset verifications usually within a matter of minutes, Yardi Case Manager, a ticketing solution for tracking service delivery, and much more. “YASC offers a great time for our clients every year. But, beyond the fun and entertainment, there really is a focus on educating Yardi clients on our current and future solutions. There’s a lot to learn at YASC, and this affordable housing spotlight session was a great example,” said Jackie. Interested in attending a Yardi event? YASC Multifamily Spotlight

2024 is a big year for Yardi, and it’s not just because we’re celebrating 40 years in business. This year marks an exciting shift in our innovation process, exemplified by the new AI solutions presented during YASC 2024’s opening spotlight session for multifamily. Here’s a recap of innovations and features unveiled during the event. Marketing with AI Ready to streamline content creation and optimize marketing spend? As Esther Bonardi, Yardi vice president of corporate marketing and REACH by RentCafe, put it, “AI is everywhere, and it’s impacting all of our development from the time renters start looking for their apartment, and all the way until they’re renewing their lease.” Here’s a peek at new AI-driven solutions to help you drive more quality prospects. Simplifying content creation with Creator by Virtuoso The new Creator by Virtuoso — included in Marketing IQ Genius — uses AI to generate and schedule content for property websites. Whether it’s page narratives, blog posts or Google Business Profile updates, content creation has never been easier. Marketers can now update websites and social feeds with minimal effort, ensuring they stay competitive in the digital landscape. Data-driven budgeting and strategy Marketing IQ Genius also includes more advanced SEO and PPC reporting, as well as PPC budget recommendations powered by machine learning. Get strategic suggestions that help you make informed decisions about your advertising spend.  Allocate budgets more effectively and drive better results based on real-time data and insights. Speed to lease: Accelerating the customer journey with AI “Days equal dollars when it comes to vacancy loss,” Paul Yount, industry principal, said to a crowd of multifamily professionals — but not before he somehow weaved a baby picture of himself onto a slide. (It all connected to his YASC session, “Back to the Future of Leasing and AI.”) Speed is everything when it comes to turning your prospect into a resident — and our AI initiatives are making that process even faster. Here are some updates that will help you reduce vacancy loss. More efficient leasing Chat IQ, powered by Yardi Virtuoso, provides instant, personalized responses to your customers that keep them engaged and informed throughout their leasing journey. Plus, our income and identity verification solutions streamline approvals, ensuring maximum speed when it comes to converting an inquiry into a lease. Self-serve maintenance Our new self-serve maintenance feature guides residents through minor fixes, reducing the hassle associated with maintenance and the workload on property managers. This not only enhances resident satisfaction but also frees up time for teams to focus on more strategic tasks. Yardi Energy Yardi Energy has exciting new updates in store to help you manage energy usage more efficiently, so you can reduce cost while aligning with environmental best practices. Enhancing the resident experience We’re also rolling out new innovations that will make your resident experience even better. Get ready for increased resident satisfaction and renewals. Rewards by RentCafe Resident retention is key to long-term success, and our new rewards program for residents is designed to do just that. Rewards by RentCafe incentivizes your residents to pay rent on time by rewarding them for on-time rent payments and subscriptions to Resident Services by ResidentShield. Points can be redeemed for fun things like travel and shopping, helping you enhance satisfaction. Resident Services by ResidentShield As just mentioned, we’ve rolled out a comprehensive suite of resident services that cater to every stage of the resident lifecycle. But the highlight is our move-in tracker, which simplifies the move-in process for residents by giving them one place to sign up and activate all the essentials, like Wi-Fi and electricity. This helps them feel at home from day one, and gives you bonus points for a seamless experience — without extra effort on your part. The roadmap A preview of enhancements you can take advantage of now, or soon! Chat IQ It just keeps getting better with Chat IQ. This...

The Journey Continues Aug27

The Journey Continues

It’s a milestone year for Yardi, and the air was buzzing with excitement as nearly 4,500 real estate technology leaders gathered in San Diego this morning to kick off the 2024 Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC). The theme of this year’s event is “the journey continues,” and it promises to be an exhilarating and insightful three-day experience for all YASC attendees. Kicking off the General Session, Esther Bonardi, vice president of corporate marketing and REACH by RentCafe, reflected on the company’s innovative past and exciting present. “The journey does not stop here and goes into the future, and maybe (this week), you will share something with us that goes into our future,” Bonardi said. YASC attendees received a commemorative silver coin marking a “moment in time, and we hope you go back home and remember you were here when Yardi hit 40 years.” Guiding principles and great determination Yardi founder and CEO, Anant Yardi, shared his personal memories of starting Yardi on his Apple II computer in Santa Barbara, Calif. Later in the opener, his son Kevin Yardi, today the company’s vice president, recalled falling asleep to the sound of his father’s keystrokes as he programmed late into the night. In the early 1980s, Mr. Yardi shared that his claim to fame was that those using Yardi software only needed one floppy disk for the program, instead of the more common three or four. The Apple II Mr. Yardi worked on made the trip to San Diego for the 40-year anniversary, demurely sharing the stage with all speakers.  “At any point of time throughout the 40 years at Yardi, there was always a vision and a goal,” Mr. Yardi said. Despite early setbacks, he relied on “tenacity and a degree of stubbornness to keep at it, accompanied by optimism and clarity.”  “Any growth must be planned and orchestrated with rapid learning and execution,” Mr. Yardi noted. He shared a poignant personal story – in the late 1990s, his late father encouraged him to quit while he was ahead, suggesting that as the business grew larger, the more complaints and challenges he would encounter. Mr. Yardi politely declined to follow the advice. Since then, the company has grown from around 300 staff members to over 9,500. “Behind every challenge lurks an opportunity, so when you’re challenged, recognize there is an opportunity lurking behind it. I would like to see the journey continue with all these traditions and guiding principles. At the end of these 40 years, there’s humility and gratitude. In terms of gratitude, without our clients and employees, this wouldn’t have happened,” Mr. Yardi said. Cutting edge technology and artificial intelligence Rob Teel, president of global solutions, and Akshai Rao, president of residential, took the stage to share exciting news about Yardi Voyager 8 and Virtuoso. Introduced at last year’s YASC and now adopted by over 1,500 Yardi clients, Voyager 8 features engaging dashboards, seamless and easy data, and offers business insights not just for accounting. It’s an ideal platform for even the most tech-skeptical executive or portfolio owner. The upgrade to Voyager 8 is simple and scalable. “You can go at your own pace,” Rao noted. Voyager 8 can be rolled out to some teams or properties first, rather than to the entire company at once. “Let us help you, we are here to help.” Virtuoso, Yardi’s artificial intelligence solution, continues to evolve with a mobile app set to launch in Q1 2025. Virtuoso features include a chatbot, smart AP and leasing features, and a virtual assistant, which will improve decision-making, task management and efficiency. Another neat Virtuoso feature will include Marketplace ordering, which is like Google Lens and will allow team members to take a photo of a product and source it immediately. For those who might still be iffy about using AI, Rao said: “We will always back up AI with human intelligence, our teams’ knowledge...

Multifamily Leaders Talk Trends Sep28

Multifamily Leaders Talk Trends

At the 2023 Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference, Director of Sales Nima Farkhak led a panel with leading multifamily figures about trends impacting the industry — and the tech they’re using to get ahead. The conversation revolved around automation, fraud prevention and training. Particularly, how can multifamily organizations receive more employee buy-in when implementing new technology, and leverage that technology to maximize support for their employees? Panelists (pictured, right) included Leslie Henry, SVP of strategic solutions and development at Towne Properties and Josh Draughn, head of marketing at Weidner Apartment Homes. Read on for key takeaways. Automating early touchpoints significantly reduces site teams’ workloads Most multifamily operators agree that strategic automation is key to efficiency, resulting in streamlined workloads, satisfied employees and happier residents. “Automation is all about how we can give back valuable time to our associates, and we’ve found Chat IQ to be extremely helpful with that,” said Draughn. “Instant gratification is now expected, so our first automated engagement starts just five minutes after an initial contact. Then Chat IQ transitions the interaction to texting, which results in a faster response time.” Since implementing automation and Chat IQ, Draughn says that Weidner experienced a 15 percent reduction in advertising costs year over year. Transparent communication is key to achieving employee buy-in But there are challenges with implementing automation, artificial intelligence and new technology in general — especially when it comes to employee buy-in. Henry noted that most of Towne’s employees have been with the company for a long time and were opposed to change — until they saw its benefits firsthand. “After we implemented Chat IQ,” Henry said, “Our site teams quickly realized how useful it was in gaining back time. They love how it filtered out less promising leads in the beginning. But we also took their feedback if they didn’t like the way the bot was responding. We let them customize some aspects of the responses so there was more of a personal human touch.” Draughn agreed. “Getting buy-in at first will always be challenging,” he said. “But it’s all about how you communicate new changes and listen to their feedback. The human element in multifamily is always going to stay.” Deterring fraud with automation Multifamily organizations are also relying on technology to vet applicants more than ever. ID Verify uses facial recognition technology to confirm applicant identities. To do this, applicants take a selfie during the screening process, which is then matched with the official documents they submit. “Accuracy is one of the biggest benefits of automating the identity and income verification process,” Henry said, adding that automated technology has acted as a fraud deterrent, saving Towne thousands of dollars in the process. “In the beginning, I thought we were losing rentals,” Henry said. “But when we looked closer, it was because some IDs were so clearly fraudulent that the system weeded them out instantly. It saved us from dealing with them, them potentially living with us and us incurring bad debt.” Draughn agreed, noting that while there may be steps like taking selfies, genuine prospects will still follow through with the application. This allows leasing teams to avoid guesswork or repetitive communications. Streamlining online training As the pandemic shifted training methods from in-person to online, Towne Properties also turned to the learning management system Aspire for online training. “We’re learning about the product faster and it’s easier for us to train new employees,” Henry said, highlighting the ease brought by Aspire’s full integration with Towne’s solutions. “It feels good knowing that anyone can learn at their own pace with Aspire.” See it in action A connected solution can help you drive efficiency at every stage of your workflow, enhancing data connectivity and eliminating gaps. Voyager 8 Announced at YASC 2023 Sep06

Voyager 8 Announced at YASC 2023

Yardi’s Advanced Solutions Conference kicked off Wednesday morning with over 4,000 attendees – making it the largest YASC ever – in attendance at the San Diego Convention Center. “We have 4,000 of the best minds in real estate in San Diego this week,” observed Esther Bonardi, a vice president at Yardi, as a packed room eagerly anticipated remarks from Anant Yardi, the company’s founder and CEO; as well as executives Rob Teel, Akshai Rao and Kevin Yardi. Anant Yardi, founder and CEO of Yardi, speaks at YASC in San Diego on Sept. 6, 2023. Photo credit: Julian Thomas, Yardi staff. The YASC opening session always offers an overview of real estate technology trends and insight into how they might play out within Yardi’s single connected solution for real estate companies. This year brought an especially exciting reveal: Voyager 8 is currently in limited release to clients and will be widely available beginning in January 2024. “The biggest thing with Voyager 8 to get excited about is the user experience. The user interface is completely different. It’s a big leap from Voyager 7S. It’s not a leap in terms of the upgrade process, though,” said Rob Teel, president of global solutions. “We are really excited about the upgrade process. This is going to be an opportunity for you to decide which users you want to start using Voyager 8. They can use 7S or 8, so you don’t have to choose. You can allow your users to get comfortable with Voyager 8 as you start to roll this out,” said Akshai Rao, president of residential. Clients were able to get detailed demos and highlights of the forthcoming release in spotlight sessions unique to their real estate verticals on Wednesday morning. In addition to the new user experience and simple upgrade process, Voyager 8 is built for compatibility with artificial intelligence (AI), promising a continual opportunity for real estate companies to use the new technology for efficiency and smoother operations. AI and real estate AI’s implications for business functions like marketing are evident across industries, but what about specific uses for real estate? That question was at the heart of Anant Yardi’s remarks on Wednesday morning. Noting that Yardi is fully committed to making use of AI in the most constructive and beneficial ways possible, Mr. Yardi said that he sees the incorporation of the technology as a gradual one. “The future of AI in real estate is not going to be some big bang type of change, that’s not going to happen,” Mr. Yardi said. He noted that Yardi has already made infrastructure investments that will provide processing bandwidth required for AI systems. Teel and Rao provided a look at Yardi products where AI is already incorporated and will have a growing role moving forward. They include chatbots, which already provide automated answers to prospect questions from multifamily clients; maintenance requests, which could be assigned prioritization and dispatch by AI; and a virtual Voyager assistant who will answer software questions, thanks to AI. “We are fully committed to this change and look at this as an opportunity to grow,” Mr. Yardi said. “Anytime there’s an opportunity to embrace and acknowledge change, I think lurking behind it, you’ll see an opportunity for growth.” Spotlight on corporate philanthropy The general session concluded with a look at Yardi’s corporate focus on philanthropy, which has been a longtime priority for the company. “Our guiding principles over the last 40 years and for the next 40 years are to take care of our clients, employees and communities, and candidly, we don’t often talk about what it means to take care of our communities, so I wanted to take this opportunity to spend a few minutes on it,” said Kevin Yardi, vice president. “We provide funding to our 40 offices around the world and our 9,000 employees help guide funding to nonprofits that are meaningful to...

YASC 2022 Aug31

YASC 2022

The Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC) returned in person for the first time in three years. The sold-out event welcomes 3,000 Yardi clients in San Diego, Calif. for three days of learning, networking, exposure to exciting new technologies, and fun. Yardi president and founder Anant Yardi addressed attendees at the San Diego Convention Center, the first time YASC has utilized such a large venue for its general session gatherings. The host hotel for the event is the Manchester Grand Hyatt, where classes and Knowledge Center, a technology resource lab, are taking place. “It is just so exciting to have this conference in person once again after almost a three-year hiatus. Thank you for making the time to be here and to enjoy the atmosphere, the educational sessions and to network with each other,” Mr. Yardi said. Marking the company’s 40th anniversary, Mr. Yardi shared his perspective on the changes that the pandemic will bring to real estate holistically. The last two and a half years have been transformative for the industry. “For me, change is not a setback. It’s an opportunity to figure out how to respond to a theme such as the pandemic and the things that we see occurring around us,” Mr. Yardi said. Anticipating a coworking boom Those pandemic-prompted changes include the vast numbers of knowledge workers no longer working in offices full time, and residential shifts that have taken place as the result of increased workplace flexibility. Mr. Yardi cited a recent CoreNet study that found that 29 percent of knowledge workers are not required to be in the office unless requested by a manager, and close to 60 percent are required to be there less than four days a week. This shift has been buoyed by employers finding that employees are just as productive at home as they are at the office – 83 percent of CoreNet corporate respondents stated this was the case. This change in where people are working portends a significant shift for the commercial office space market. “Corporate real estate agencies or employers are beginning to shed office space. They’re reducing their footprints,” he said, citing national average office vacancy rates that are averaging 16 percent, but are 20 percent in some major markets. Mr. Yardi expects that the shift in space utilization will create a boom for coworking spaces and services. He forecast that coworking space – places where traveling or fully remote employees can use temporarily to have meetings, use the Internet, answer emails or accomplish tasks – will become prolific in the next few years. “Today there are 6,000 coworking locations (nationally). And the expectation is that in three to five years, it will be close to 30 times that number, and every large building will end up with a coworking location,” Mr. Yardi said. “My suspicion is that in course of time, coworking will get to a point where sites such as Expedia will allow you to book your hotel, your airline and your coworking conference space.” Marking 40 years of real estate technology After sharing some of the highlights for other real estate sectors – including rising rents in the multifamily space, an increased focus on built-to-rent single family developments, and a need for more affordable housing nationwide – Mr. Yardi reflected on the journey Yardi has taken as a company over the last four decades. Sharing a photo of the Apple II, an 8-bit home computer on which he wrote the first basic program that became the start line for Yardi’s software, Mr. Yardi contrasted the laborious process of manually programming the original code with today’s AI algorithms, which enable the production of code via machine learning. “The reason I wanted to show this to you is that innovation is one thing, but when the markets change, technology changes,” Mr. Yardi said. “We all have to learn new things.” Yardi continues to innovate technology solutions...

Mining ESG Data Apr13

Mining ESG Data

How can property owners meet the growing demand for environmental, social and governance performance accountability from residents, tenants and investors? Yardi client representatives who lead ESG reporting for their organizations and an official from GRESB, the ESG benchmark for real estate assets, recently offered some insight. Juliette Apicella, director of sustainability for Atlanta-based apartment owner and manager Gables Residential Services, was one of three industry experts who appeared on a YASC Global panel. “More investors are interested in details about our ESG policies and achievements,” she said. That prompted the company to use ESG as “a tool that helps us monitor our assets’ environmental performance as a driver of returns.” Gables has stepped up its recruitment of employees, partners and residents in the effort to incorporate environmental priorities into its operations. Another panelist, Jennifer Plesnicar, vice president for Chicago-area industrial developer and manager CenterPoint Properties Trust, sounded a similar note: “ESG is becoming more important each year” among multiple company stakeholders. “How a company responds to ESG expectations can impact operations ranging from borrowing rates to talent attraction and tenant retention,” she said. The widespread attention to ESG is “pushing the real estate industry forward,” said the third panelist, Dan Winters, head of Americas for GRESB, which collects and validates data and disseminates it to more than 150 institutional real estate investors around the world. “Getting accurate ESG data, rolling it up to the portfolio level and sharing it with the industry increases insight for a company, which appeals to its institutional investors, and also provides better outcomes for GRESB participants.” Overcoming data gathering challenges All panelists agreed that the principal challenge to managing an organization’s ESG performance is gathering, tracking and disseminating the consumption data necessary to formulate ESG actions. “A lot of...

Coworking Trends Mar28

Coworking Trends

Yardi sought insight into a key office property management trend – flexible workspace arrangements – from a panel of clients at YASC Global. The three panelists, including Yael Urman, chief information officer for New York City-based commercial property developer Silverstein Properties, spelled out why the changing landscape requires greater flexibility. The days of the simple 15-year-lease-and-renew are over, Urman said, having been superseded by demands for work arrangement flexibility that can encompass everything from personalized work area coloring and furnishings to private offices. “We’re in the productivity, flexibility and well-being business now, not just providing four walls,” Urman said. “Our priority now is to offer any option that enables cooperation and enhances productivity for our clients.” Panelist Willie Gutierrez, COO/CFO of Premier Workspaces, an Irvine, Calif., coworking company that owns and leases flex office space, agreed that “it’s the experience, not the four walls” that matters for tenants in today’s office work environment. Gutierrez, whose company’s offerings include offices and conference rooms for as little as an hour, added that private offices for small and medium size businesses is Premier’s most popular offering. The third panelist, Brandon Van Orden, senior vice president and CIO for Atlanta office REIT Cousins Properties, senses a desire among workers to “get back in the office, collaborate in person and enjoy the social aspects of work. They still want big conference rooms for in-person meetings.” Accordingly, Van Orden and his Cousins colleagues describe their offerings as “flexible,” rather than “hybrid,” which implies that some workers remain permanently remote while others are permanently in the office. Cousins is also piloting technologies that create a seamless visitor experience that extends from the parking deck to the building entrance to the office, Van Orden said. Another key trend noted by the panelists...

YASC GLOBAL

Yardi held three days of educational online programming for clients March 8-10. This year’s digital Global Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC) focused on how technology can help meet the needs of today’s real estate industry across multiple verticals. More than 15,000 Yardi clients worldwide attended the three day event, and viewed more than 300 classes covering all aspects of Yardi’s technology offerings. More than 100,000 classes were attended over the the three days. In today’s challenging economy, efforts to automate and improve processes wherever possible can help overcome staffing challenges. Yardi executives showcased the company’s multiple product suites during overview spotlight sessions, which can be of tremendous help for business efficiency. Read on for some of the highlights. Meeting the changing needs of commercial clients Perhaps no real estate sector has experienced more changes during the pandemic than commercial real estate. Many offices have sat dormant for months or more while employees worked from home. The retail and restaurant landscape has been altered greatly. And the industrial and self storage sectors have seen a huge boom in demand. More than two years since the first U.S. lockdowns, impacts are being observed across CRE, said Yardi senior vice president Rob Teel. “I spend a lot of time with our office clients, executives and users of Voyager and our commercial product suite. It is true that vacancy is starting to creep up. Occupancy numbers are hipping a little bit – though not as much as people thought would happen during the pandemic.” As a result, creative owners and managers are exploring alternative uses for office space. They include coworking, either self-managed or working with a partner, which the Yardi Kube suite is perfectly positioned to help manage. Others are turning to mixed use, which opens the...

YASC Makes a Virtual Return

The Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference, which began as two annual events in the U.S. and expanded to encompass six events on four continents, will soon continue its two-decade tradition of helping clients maximize the value of their Yardi software. ”The reason I enjoy YASC is to see new product developments and to understand how other corporations are using the platform,” said Katerina Urquhart of London-based M&G Real Estate, who attended YASC Europe in 2019. “I was able to take classes on the newest products, ask questions on topics I didn’t fully understand and dig into things that interest me,” Marcie Trivette of Fore Property in Las Vegas said last year. “No matter how big or small, every client has a voice with Yardi, and these sessions are great ways to reinforce that,” an executive director with Laramar Communities LLC of Greenwood Village, Colo., noted back in 2010. Last year’s presentations were different, of course. All YASC events were combined into YASC Digital and YASC Global, virtual experiences with a full slate of free on-demand classes, social activities and gala entertainment. YASC Global in October drew more than 20,000 attendees and featured an exclusive performance from internationally acclaimed Icelandic band Of Monsters And Men. With every view triggering a donation from Yardi, the event earned $75,000 for charities. A two-time Grammy Award-winning performer is on tap for the May conference and Yardi again will make a donation for every attendee viewing the show. The next edition of YASC Global happens May 18-20, with 280-plus classes on the latest software innovations for property owners, asset managers, real estate investment managers and others working in commercial, residential, PHA, senior living and other real estate markets. Live chat support will also be available. YASC Global participants can also look forward to social media interaction, daily giveaways, networking opportunities and entertainment. All Yardi clients are automatically enrolled in the conference. “This is the era of continuous connection. But in the world of business, continuous connection hasn’t fully come to fruition. Our goal is to make that happen and provide the tools and technologies that you need,” company president and founder Anant Yardi told 2,500 Yardi clients and staff members who gathered in San Diego for YASC in 2019. Two years later, in vastly different circumstances, that remains the purpose of YASC. Learn more about the benefits Yardi’s global client base gains from this...

Yardi Gras Feb16

Yardi Gras

Who knew that the 2019 “Yardi Gras” celebration at YASC DC would be a prescient window to the future? This year, instead of typical Fat Tuesday revelry, the citizen of New Orleans are celebrating in a very different way: at home, due to the ongoing pandemic. It’s a theme we’re all familiar with at this point, after nearly a year of working, living life and celebrating milestones – all from home. Our yards may be very familiar at this point, but they are also a creative space for expression and fun. Nowhere is that more true than in New Orleans today. Historic Tradition, Reimagined “Since 1857, Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans have been called off only 14 times, because of war, mob violence, or labor disputes,” reports Bloomberg News. “This year will be the 15th. Much as the city came together after the devastation of Hurricane Katina, turning Carnival into a celebration of hope amid the mourning, Crescent City citizens are still letting the good times roll and supporting each other while they’re at it.” Originally, Yardi Gras, as city officials are calling it, began as a fundraiser. The Krewe of Red Beans was looking for a way to help the artists who create the city’s typically over-the-top parade floats. With no parades, no income was coming in. After the fundraiser as publicized, the idea gained grassroots traction – often on actual grass. As a result, this year there are more than 3,000 “house floats” at individual homes around New Orleans and beyond. A Spirit of Celebration “It’s a spirit of celebration just like that we had in Washington D.C. at YASC two years ago,” said Tim Hoover, creative director for Yardi. “We brought in Sierra Green and the Soul Machine to entertain...

YASC Global Oct23

YASC Global

October 20-22, Yardi provided three days of education, training, inspiration and support to clients during the YASC Global conference. The expansion of the online event to attendees worldwide, building on a U.S.-focused event held in May, was well received. Over 20,000 attendees, representing more than 2,500 companies from 58 countries, took 45,000 courses over 72 hours. The event was hosted on the Yardi Aspire learning platform. Anant Yardi, founder and president of Yardi, delivered an introduction to the event and remarked on the rapid adaptations real estate professionals have made worldwide. “Last year we had six different conferences: Washington, D.C., San Diego, London, Dubai, Singapore and Sydney. They were festive occasions where we had the opportunity to meet and greet you. Today, things have changed,” Mr. Yardi said. “We now work from home. We no longer meet face to face, but through digital media. And as all of this is going on, we yearn for those good old days. I don’t know about you, but it sure is nice to meet face to face. And we look forward to the day when we can do that.” But to help deal with the “new normal” that the real estate industry now faces, Yardi has continued to expand its product suites to assist with remote business management, data transparency, social distancing, working from home and much more. These features augment the business and accounting features that have made Yardi the go-to technology provider for real estate over the last 40 years. Product spotlights During YASC Spotlight sessions, clients heard from Yardi executives about the development and progress of product suites, including Affordable Housing, Commercial, Investment Management, Multifamily, Senior Living, and Public Housing. There were also regional updates for international clients from Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and the Middle East. “Through a single connected solution, we remain focused on providing a set of products and services that have a real impact on your property operations and property performance. These products help to create transparency and efficiencies in the interest of reducing risk, reducing expenses, increasing revenues and increasing property values,“ said John Pendergast, senior vice president at Yardi. Products highlighted for multifamily operators were RENTCafé Reach search marketing;  Marketing IQ, a new marketing analytics product; RENTCafé  Self-Guided Tours, which allows socially distanced property tours; RENTCafé Chat IQ, an automated marketing assistant using AI and machine learning; Maintenance IQ; Asset IQ; and the Procure to Pay suite. “There have been some dramatic changes. Remote working, asset distress, residents and tenants’ ability to pay rent, and a real focus on data have been part of our conversations with clients both big and small, operational or institutional ownership. The challenges are common across the different platforms and client perspectives,” shared Richard Malpica, vice president and general manager, Eastern region for Yardi, in the investment management spotlight. While different commercial real estate sectors have been affected uniquely, data visibility and the ability to access operational data have been especially important to investors and operators alike. The Investment Management product suite provides tools to deliver data transparency, risk exposure analysis and real time reporting that investors are seeking now. “Though we have incredible optimism about the next 18 months, it is important that we acknowledge the hardship that many of you have faced in a personal and professional manner,” said Rob Teel, senior vice president at Yardi, in the commercial product spotlight. “I want to assure you that Yardi has passionately contributed philanthropically and to professional trade organizations to help with a global rebound from this crisis.” Commercial clients learned about the latest updates to the Yardi Commercial Suite, including Yardi Elevate, which sits on top of Yardi Voyager and provides operational tools to drive performance and gain operational visibility. Leasing, forecasting, deals, retail tenants and construction projects all have specialized management modules and reporting oversight within Yardi Elevate. Its real time informational visibility has been especially beneficial...

YASC Global Sep09

YASC Global

The Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference began in 1999 with about 200 guests in attendance. YASC eventually encompassed six events on four continents dedicated to giving real estate professionals in-depth training in Yardi property and investment management software. There were always plenty of networking opportunities and fun as well. COVID-19 diminished in-person meetings this year but not the YASC mission. Yardi kept the tradition going in May, hosting a digital version in lieu of gathering in Washington, D.C. More than 16,000 clients around the world completed 107,000 on-demand classes and viewed 50,000 hours of content at YASC Digital. Yardi will build on YASC Digital by combining the year’s five remaining conferences into YASC Global, a presentation of more than 280 on-demand classes Oct. 20-22. Like YASC Digital, YASC Global is free to all clients and features customized, self-paced learning and market-based registration tracks. There’s also live chat support from product specialists, in-depth spotlight sessions, real-time chat with fellow attendees, prizes and giveaways, and social media interaction. Attendance at YASC Global is expected to exceed that of YASC Digital. “We’re gratified that our clients gained so much from YASC Digital. That outcome inspired us to repeat the experience and enhance it with expanded class offerings, panel sessions and exclusive special events,” said Kevin Yardi, the company’s vice president of global solutions. “We look forward to joining industry leaders around the globe in a memorable event.” Learn about the value in store for Yardi clients at YASC...

YASC Digital

Assembling more than 2,000 clients and employees in Washington, D.C., for the spring Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference wasn’t an option. But Yardi got creative and delivered all the expected benefits of YASC in a new way this month. YASC Digital, which was free to clients, comprised more than 125 on-demand courses on asset and investment management software innovations. Spotlight sessions addressed developments in the multifamily, commercial, investment management, affordable and PHA market segments. The virtual conference attracted 16,000 participants from 2,500 companies in 30 countries, with attendees completing 107,000 courses and viewing 50,000 hours of content over three days. Yardi product specialists fielded thousands of live chat requests. Company president and founder Anant Yardi, offering a video welcome in lieu of “meeting and greeting,” reaffirmed the company’s dedication to maintaining superior client service in the COVID-19 environment. Noting the company’s $2 million donation to food banks that are helping communities in the U.S. and Canada weather the pandemic, Mr. Yardi invited his audience to “tackle the future with resolve and optimism.” (The company also donated $25 to food banks for every selfie submitted during YASC Digital – see many of the submissions in the gallery below.) The YASC Digital experience resonated positively with participants. “Thank you to everyone on the YASC team for putting together the digital format … which allows us all to continue to learn and grow with Yardi,” said Scott Teem of Portland, Ore.-based Guardian Real Estate Services LLC. “Thanks in no small part to Yardi, we’re doing fine,” added David Wise of Philadelphia-area LCOR. “Thank you for supporting the local food banks and for keeping us all connected!” said James Juliano, checking in from Berkshire Residential Investments in Boston. YASC Digital

Yardi is working to keep clients informed and connected during a challenging time for the real estate industry and the nation. Those efforts will continue in May with a one-of-a-kind digital Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC), offered entirely online for the first time and free to clients. In some respects, this special edition of spring YASC won’t differ from what it’s been for two decades — a three-day educational event (Tuesday to Thursday, May 19-21) for clients to refresh their Yardi software skills and preview real estate technology innovations. “We look forward to welcoming our clients and prospects to classes that reflect the same great learning and skill development opportunities they would have with us in person,” said Tim Hoover, creative director for Yardi and producer of the biannual U.S. YASC events. “We’re excited about YASC Digital, which will feature spotlight sessions with Yardi executives, chances to interact and engage with other attendees online, and more.” Participants in YASC Digital will be able to access more than 125 courses in 18 learning tracks on demand; May 19-21. This approach offers registrants flexibility for self-paced learning and for creating a personal plan that meets their business needs. Market-based registration tracks will make class selection a breeze. As of today, Yardi plans to present the year’s second U.S. YASC as usual in October. Last year’s conference drew over 2,500 clients and Yardi staff members to San Diego. Fall YASC registration information is available here. Clients will receive an email on May 12 with an access link to participate in YASC...

Support Resources

Yardi is closely monitoring recommendations from national and international organizations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization and taking the following measures to protect and support its clients, employees and communities during the COVID-19 outbreak: Client Support Property managers’ obligations to tenants, residents, employees and communities continue even in this period of extreme disruption. The Yardi team is actively working on tools and training to help clients ensure business continuity, safety and productivity in this new near-term reality of far more remote work and social distancing. The company will offer free online training courses to help its clients continue to work as productively, efficiently and securely as possible. Yardi is following its own business continuity protocols to ensure uninterrupted client services and encourages clients to contact their client services representatives for help during this difficult time. Employee Support Most of the Yardi team has transitioned to a remote work environment. Healthcare and nursing resources are available to all employees, as are counseling and therapy resources. The company has heightened office hygiene and cleaning protocols for those who remain onsite to deliver essential services. In addition, Yardi postponed or canceled all near-term in-person events and ceased travel in favor of online alternatives. The spring Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC) has transitioned to a free online presentation for Yardi clients. Industry events that the company normally participates in have been postponed or canceled by their sponsoring organizations. Community Support In addition to the time, energy and financial support that Yardi traditionally donates to philanthropic organizations, we have committed $2 million to food banks and other nonprofits on the front lines of their communities’ fight against COVID-19. “Our team is navigating the COVID-19 crisis with the same philosophy that has guided us for more than three decades: take care of our clients, our employees and our communities. We are confident that all of us will unite to subdue COVID-19, and we’ll emerge from this challenge stronger than ever,” said Anant Yardi, the company’s president and founder. YASC Turns 20 Oct16

YASC Turns 20

A special anniversary Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC) kicked off this morning in beautiful San Diego, with 2,500 Yardi clients and staff members in attendance for the 20th edition of the event. Yardi president and founder Anant Yardi reflected on the early years of the conference in his opening remarks. “About 200 people attended the first YASC, and we were thinking, how will we cope with 200 guests?” Mr. Yardi reminisced. “Those 200 people would only fill the first two rows of seats here today.” Mr. Yardi then invited two clients who have been to almost every YASC event, Alex Ruiz of Picerne and Carol Kelly Ball of Sierra Properties, to join him on the stage. Yardi employees Nancy Bogg and Anna Markmann, who have worked on the production of every YASC conference, were also honored. YASC is now a global event, with six conferences annually around the world. In addition to the two U.S. based events, there are conferences in the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Singapore and England. Meanwhile, Yardi has grown to a company size of almost 7,000 employees at 45 offices around the world. Two decades on, Yardi’s corporate focus and mission statement remains the same: focused on client and employee success, stellar customer service, innovating new products and platforms and assisting local communities with philanthropy and volunteerism. At the heart of each of those items is the importance of relationships. One of the most valuable aspects of the YASC events is the chance for Yardi to receive feedback and suggestions from clients, and for clients to learn about new products and solve business challenges. In his remarks, Mr. Yardi offered a compelling history of technological innovation over the last 20 years, summarizing the transition from the early days of dot com, to the mobile and social media revolution, to today’s era of big data, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. “This is the era of continuous connection. But in the world of business, continuous connection hasn’t fully come to fruition. Our goal is to make that happen and provide the tools and technologies that you need,” Mr. Yardi said. Yardi clients look forward to hearing about forthcoming advances in products and innovation at YASC, and Wednesday’s general session offered a breadth of such insight. Following Mr. Yardi’s presentation, Rob Teel, senior vice president, and Kevin Yardi, vice president, consulting practices, offered a detailed look at the Yardi Elevate suite for operational performance, Yardi Energy Suite for energy management, and Yardi Kube for coworking management. “We’re not just chasing dreams,” Mr. Teel said. “Most of the things that Anant mentioned, there are solutions at the end of it that will help your business.” Attendees at YASC will explore those solutions over the next two and a half days and also have a little fun. A special #YASCTurns20 party is planned for Thursday night on the U.S.S. Midway, near the conference venue on the San Diego waterfront. Find a full lineup of YASC highlights and information.
