Automation, data centralization enable one user to manage dozens of commercial properties
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 26, 2017 – One person at Sher Properties Inc. manages several dozen properties with Yardi Voyager®, the platform that the Philadelphia-based commercial property management company has relied on since 2012.
“As a Software as a Service platform, Voyager simplifies my IT requirements, ensures data security and allows full mobile access,” said Robert B. Sher Jr., president of Sher Properties and the company’s sole user of Yardi Voyager.
He continued, “With automated workflows and a centralized database for property management and accounting, I can manage a fairly large portfolio that includes 12 tenant-based properties and several other investment properties with about 50 tenants. The occupants range from mom-and-pop stores to chain grocery and drug stores. Voyager’s scalability lets me perform core accounting and property management for all of them, giving me more time to focus on recruiting and retaining tenants.”
One complex process that Yardi Voyager makes manageable for a one-user staff is common area maintenance reconciliations. Prior to adopting Yardi Voyager, Sher had to import data from spreadsheets and perform the calculations manually, creating opportunities for data entry errors. “Now, calculating recoveries based on actual expenses and matching them to the recovery profile is seamless, a big time-saver and much more accurate than doing them manually,” he said.
“Sher Properties has been a Yardi client since 2005. The various platforms we adopted, culminating with Voyager 7S, have allowed us to grow our business without adding staff for property management or accounting. I can still do it all myself,” he added.
