Sexual harassment courses include new content to meet California mandate

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Feb. 27, 2018 โ€“ Yardi has updated its existing sexual harassment training materials on the Yardiยฎ eLearning platform per new legislation passed by the State of California in the fall of 2016. The courses now provide instruction on preventing harassment associated with gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.

The new policies require companies with 50 or more employees in California to train managers on these subjects. The law went into effect on January 1, 2018.

The updated Yardi eLearning courses enable California-based clients to comply with the new state law. โ€œGender identity and sexual orientation are long past due when it comes to inclusion in harassment training. Weโ€™re proud to make this important instructional material available not only to our clients in California, but to any client nationwide,โ€ said Patty Evans, director of corporate training for Yardi.

Yardi eLearning clients can access the new content simply by logging in to the training environment. โ€œThatโ€™s one of the great things about online training, it can be quickly updated and efficiently rolled out to learners at very little cost compared with producing a new video or brochure,โ€ said Evans.

The new standards set by California require that instruction be interactive and include practical examples for managers. โ€œReal-life situations are much more effective than the old, outdated training videos weโ€™ve all seen. With our web-based learning platform, we can provide users with a highly interactive environment with thought-provoking situations to consider. We worked hard to provide great examples to teach this important subject,โ€ said Evans.
